FAQs:  Zika Prevention Measures Impact Shipments to China

Aug 25, 2016

Why is China imposing regulations?

China is requiring measures to prevent the spread of the ZIKA virus.  In Spring of 2016, the USA was placed on a list along with 50+ other countries.  Recently China has stepped up enforcement of these new regulatory requirements.

What is required?

All inbound shipments to China are required to fumigate and provide certification.  Those without proof of certification could be quarantined and fumigated by the Chinese Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (CIQ) at port of entry.  We recommend fumigation be done before shipments leave the USA in order to prevent delays in China.

When will it be enforced?

Now.  This rule is effective from March 2016 to March 2017; and impacts in transit shipments.

Where can I obtain certification?

Your logistics agency of record should be aware of these requirements and recommend a contractor to fumigate shipments and provide the required certification.
